The development

Microsoft’s April 2024 VASA-1 research described generating lifelike talking-face video from a single image and speech audio. The work explored facial dynamics and head movement with real-time generation. It was a research result, not evidence of a commercially available interview coach. [1]

Presence is more than a moving face

The connection to interview delivery is our analysis. A visually convincing talking face does not establish understanding, judgment, or ownership of a story. For candidates, the useful question is whether their own delivery supports what they are saying. Small pauses, clear transitions, and a direct answer can matter more to comprehension than constant animation or a perfectly polished performance.

Record yourself explaining one difficult decision. Review the audio first to check whether the reasoning stands alone. Then watch the video and notice distractions such as frequent glances away or rushing through the conclusion. Change one behavior at a time. This is an observation exercise, not a claim that facial expressions can determine competence or that an avatar should replace you in an interview.
