The development

Anthropic introduced Claude 3.7 Sonnet on February 24, 2025. The release described a hybrid reasoning model with standard and extended-thinking modes, alongside a research preview of Claude Code. It put more attention on how much reasoning a task calls for. [1]

Compress without hiding the trade-off

Our interview lesson is that preparation and delivery have different time budgets. You may spend an hour exploring a project decision, yet need to explain it in a minute. The short explanation should retain the constraint, the alternatives, and your reason for choosing. It does not need to reproduce every branch of the preparation process.

Ask a practice assistant to identify the pivotal decision in a long project note. Verify that it selected the right one, then produce your own brief explanation. Follow with a deeper answer for a listener who asks why. This two-layer approach gives you a clear opening while preserving substance for follow-ups. Longer model reasoning is not a guarantee that its interpretation of your work is correct; the record of what actually happened remains the reference.
