The development

Google’s official roundup, published May 4, 2026, reports April developments including Learn Mode in Colab, which it describes as a personalized coding tutor. The roundup also covers Gemma 4 and other AI releases. We use its stated event period for this April retrospective. [1]

Turn a notebook into an explanation

Our interview application is to use a learning environment to understand a small program deeply enough to explain it. Select one cell or function, state its purpose, and predict the output before running it. Ask a tutor for a question about the code rather than a finished explanation. This makes the interaction a test of understanding instead of another source of text to memorize.

Then change one input and predict what will happen. If the result surprises you, investigate the difference and write down the missing concept. During rehearsal, explain that concept with a minimal example. The software may support the exercise, but the learning outcome should be something you can demonstrate without the notebook. A feature announcement is not a controlled study of interview preparation; this is our suggested way to connect the development to a practical training session.
