The development
OpenAI announced new speech-to-text and text-to-speech models for its API on March 20, 2025. The release emphasized transcription improvements and more controllable speech generation. These were building blocks for applications, rather than a published measure of interview-coaching accuracy. [1]
Check the transcript before the critique
Our practical implication is simple: feedback based on a transcript is only useful when the important words were captured correctly. An error in a technical term, a number, or a negation can change the meaning of an answer. When a critique seems unrelated, inspect what the assistant received before deciding that your explanation was weak.
Keep one recording and its transcript side by side. Mark transcription mistakes separately from speaking problems. A missing word caused by the microphone deserves a different fix from an unclear sentence caused by your explanation. Then choose one delivery improvement, such as slowing down before a numerical result. Treat the transcript as a working record, not a perfect account of the conversation. This distinction is particularly helpful when rehearsing specialized terminology or switching between languages.
